Trails figure prominently in the story of the Carcross/Tagish First Nation people. Only a century ago, both the paid and subsistence economy of the Carcross/Tagish people was based around trails. For hundreds of years, trails were used for hunting, gathering, travel, and trade throughout the First Nation’s traditional territory. With the advent of the Klondike Gold Rush, Carcross/Tagish people worked as guides and packers on the Chilkoot Trail, a traditional route they had utilized for centuries.
