Community Notice: Update on Community Safety and Wellness Program

Community Safety and Wellness Liaison services will continue in the community, with some adjustments to service hours, following changes to federal funding for the program.

Community Safety and Wellness Liaisons play an important role in the community by supporting safety, prevention, and assistance for Citizens, working closely with residents and local services to help address concerns before they escalate.

The Government of Canada has informed C/TFN that the current pilot funding supporting the program is scheduled to end on March 31, 2026.

The program has been funded through the federal First Nations and Inuit Policing Program (FNIPP) on a pilot basis over the past several years. Under updated program rules the current pilot funding structure is coming to an end.

Carcross/Tagish First Nation is disappointed by this outcome. The program has provided meaningful benefits to the community and has helped strengthen safety and wellbeing for Citizens.

C/TFN has successfully secured an additional year of partial funding from Public Safety Canada to support continued delivery of services while longer-term solutions are pursued with the Yukon Government and Canada.

As a result of this transition, service levels will be adjusted as of Sunday, March 22, 2026, when there will be no service.

  • New daytime service times:
    • Tuesday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:45 PM
  • New evening service times:
    • Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 PM to 12:45 PM
    • Friday and Saturday from 3:30 PM to 1:00 AM
  • No services on Sunday and Monday

These adjustments reflect available resources while ensuring the program continues to provide meaningful support in the community.

C/TFN will continue working with partners to pursue long-term funding solutions and ensure community safety services remain supported.
