C/TFN at the UN

Listen to Colleen James discussing the upcoming visit on CBC Radio.

A delegation of Carcross/Tagish First Nation citizens will be attending the UN 2023 water conference in New York City from March 22 to 24, 2023.

The C/TFN group includes Colleen James or Ghoóch Tlâ (wolf mother in Tlingit) and Jewel Davies (Yekhunashin/Khatuku).

Access to water is a human right, which is under increased threat.

Though Indigenous communities have historically been left out of important decisions regarding water policy, their role in shaping future water policy is critical.

C/TFN is accompanying representatives of the University of Manitoba to the conference.

There they will join other Indigenous organizations, representatives of international governments, NGOs, civil society organizations and water experts from around the world.

The conference will include an opening and closing session, six plenary sessions, and five interactive dialogues, as well as side events organized by participants.

It will result in a summary of proceedings from the unga president that will feed into the 2023 session of the un high-level political forum on sustainable development (HLPF).
