Family Act Policies and Procedures

Carcross/Tagish First Nation has published the Family Act Policies and Procedures, which support the C/TFN Family Act.

This document explains how the Family Act is put into practice. While the Family Act sets out the law, the policies and procedures describe how staff, Family Council, and others carry out that work in real situations.

The document includes guidance on things such as:

  • The role of Family Council and how it works
  • How C/TFN supports children, youth, and families
  • Processes for family plans, family circles, and dispute resolution
  • How concerns about child safety are reported and addressed
  • Supports for families, children, Elders, and vulnerable adults
  • How different roles such as social workers, advocates, and peacekeepers work together

The policies are grounded in C/TFN values and teachings about family responsibility, culture, and the well-being of children and community.

This document is intended to help ensure that decisions affecting children and families are clear, consistent, and guided by C/TFN law and culture.

Citizens who want to understand how the Family Act is applied in practice are encouraged to review the document.
